Knife Sharpener Reviews

Here you will find all the reviews we have done on knife sharpeners. This includes everything from humble under $10 systems, to powered sharpening systems, and fancy fixed angle systems that sell for hundreds of dollars. I also think some of the best knife sharpeners are on this list.
Everything reviewed has actually been owned and used by the person writing the review.

For more information on knife maintenance I invite you to check out the FAQs section, with more details on maintenance and knife steel.

DMT Double Sided Diafold Sharpener Review

DMT Double Sided Diafold Sharpener Review

Ever since I reviewed the Smith’s Pocket Pal PP1 I’ve been wanting a portable sharpener. Some people refer to these as “field sharpeners,” but since I don’t spend much time in the field, I’ll just say I want something simple, small, and portable. Something that works when space is at a premium. And something durable. ...

How to Sharpen Hair Clipper Blades

How to Sharpen Hair Clipper Blades

This post came out of a desire to solve my own problem. I have some Oster Fast Feed hair clippers, and the blades became dull after a while. I spent $50+ on these clippers, so I wasn’t about to throw them away. They sell replacement blades, but at almost $20 they seemed awful expensive. I ...

Lansky 4-rod Turn Box Crock Stick Sharpener Review

Lansky 4-rod Turn Box Crock Stick Sharpener Review

I have long been an advocate for the Spyderco Sharpmaker. If you are looking for a simple high quality knife sharpener, I am still convinced that it is a great option. I have had mine for 5+ years, and continue to use it on a weekly basis. Buy the Lansky Crock Sticks at BladeHQ However, at ...

Smith's Pocket Pal PP1 Review

Smith’s Pocket Pal PP1 Review

I suspect that the Smith’s Pocket Pal has fallen into the shopping basket of many an unassuming knife collector. For starters, at under $10 the barrier to entry is low. And knife sharpening can be intimidating to some, so the promise of easy, trouble free knife sharpening probably also has its draw. And then there ...

Wiha 75992 System 4 Precision Interchangeable Bit Set Review

Wiha 75992 System 4 Precision Interchangeable Bit Set Review

When I was just starting out with collecting knives I was not super keen on spending money on knife maintenance stuff. I was into sharpeners and knife sharpening, but could never justify more than my Sharpmaker. This may have been a blessing in disguise as I can maintain my edges just fine with this setup, ...

Work Sharp Blade Grinding Attachment Review

Work Sharp Blade Grinding Attachment Review

A while back, I wrote a review of the Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition electric sharpener. I was very impressed with the performance of WKSTS-KO, even after much reservation. What really drew my attention to the Ken Onion Edition, however, were the additional features and upgrades available for that system, in particular the ...

Last Updated: July 29, 2019 Anyone who knows me knows I am passionate about keeping my blades sharp. Wicked Edge Field & Sport Review

Wicked Edge Field & Sport Review

Last Updated: August 5, 2019 If you are a knife enthusiast, then you know the importance of keeping your blade sharp; however, this is not always an easy task. Unless you are highly skilled at maintaining a consistent angle and have a good understanding of the interaction between steel and stone, sharpening and honing your ...

Spyderco Sharpmaker Review

Spyderco Sharpmaker Review

Last Updated: July 13, 2019 I occasionally get questions from readers about sharpening: what my “system” is, what products I recommend for sharpening, how I sharpen my knives, etc. While I wouldn’t call myself a knife sharpening professional, I can certainly keep a blade sharp, and I have tried a number of different sharpening kits over ...

3 Easy Knife Sharpening Tips

3 Easy Knife Sharpening Tips

Last Updated: August 12, 2019 In this post I’ll be covering three easy tips to help you sharpen your knives. Lets face it, sharpening can be a challenge, especially if you are getting into freehand sharpening. These tips are great for the beginner to intermediate sharpener that is trying to get their sharpening game to the ...

5 Knife Maintenance Tools That Every Knife Owner Needs

5 Knife Maintenance Tools That Every Knife Owner Needs

I recently received an excellent question from a reader. He was new to collecting knives, and had his eye on a very nice Benchmade as his first “real” pocket knife. He had some concerns though. He didn’t know what extra “stuff” he needed to maintain his knives, and he wasn’t sure if he would need ...

Rusty's Rags Review

Rusty’s Rags Review

Last Updated: August 30, 2019 For many people, when it comes to cleaning your knife it often comes down to what is available at the time. Whether you are using Q-tips and WD-40, soap and a dish towel, or perhaps the shirt on your back and some spit, knife nuts are opportunistic creatures when it comes ...

The Best Knife Sharpeners

This is a loaded term if I ever heard one. The best sharpener depends on your goals, skill level, kinds of sharpening you do, and budget.

My favorite if you are new to the hobby and have around $50 to spend is the Spyderco Sharpmaker. You can never go wrong with a Sharpmaker.

If you are looking to get stuff sharp for well under $20 then pick up some Lansky Crock Sticks.

If you want a compact field sharpener, then I like the DMT DiaFold.

If you want something powered then I suggest the Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition.

If money is no object and you want to while away hours putting mirror polished edges on your expensive folding knives, then I suggest the WickedEdge System.

There you have it. The best sharpeners at pretty much every budget.
